A year ago, I had the privilege of returning to my Alma Mater to attend my youngest sister’s collegiate senior recital. The entire performance was phenomenal! I was such a proud big sister. Her professor, Dr. Eka Gogichashvili, taught all four of my sisters and me over a sixteen-year time span. It was a fun reunion for us all to be together again.

My sister continued the French theme, performing the formidable Carmen Fantasy, Sarasate’s violin take on Bizet’s famous opera. Flashy and deceptively difficult, she personified the gypsy Carmen herself in her stunning red dress. Our mother performed the opera Carmen a few weeks later, so it seemed a popular one that year! Lastly, she concluded the recital on her electric violin playing a classical/contemporary music mashup with another of my sisters. They began with a duet version of French composer Ravel’s gypsy work Tzigane, followed by a funky pop mix. I’m so grateful she enjoyed this wonderful experience a year ago, because the current collegiate seniors don’t have the same opportunity. My heart goes out to all seniors who have been affected by the effects of Covid-19. As a result, I have written a short story dedicated to those affected by the virus and its aftermath.
